Isabella Opus Awning – Review

Isabella is one of the best known awning manufacturers so I hoped that when I bought from them, I was getting a quality awning for my money. Finally we had the money able to spend, so fingers crossed, I purchased it and we took it on our last caravanning trip at the weekend.

It wasn’t our first awning so we didn’t have any trouble at all putting it up, but I think the instructions would be easy for beginners to follow as well. Our Opus has the Carbon X fibreglass frame which seemed very sturdy even though it was lightweight, so it was easy enough for us to put up. It held up pretty well even though Scotland was quite windy while we were there. We had no trouble with it staying upright and I was frankly amazed at how little I felt the drafts from outside.

Something else I really like about the new awning is that it’s got big windows on the front, so I can feel as though I’m in nature without actually have to be in it. Even when it rained, we kept the ventilation covers open as the brochure suggested but we kept an eye on them to make sure they didn’t leak. They didn’t on this trip so I think that’s a good sign!

I also really appreciated the little touches, the obvious attention to detail from Isabella, like the cute curtains and the special nets on the side windows so we could see out but others couldn’t see in. My husband and I really appreciated those privacy features! It’s also quite an attractive awning, no shame in having it on my nicer caravan.

All in all I was really impressed by the quality of this Isabella awning and I know when I want to “upgrade” I’ll be sticking with them.

I’ve recently got a new Isabella awning for the summer and currently everything is looking good it seems like a high quality product but as of yet I haven’t put it through its paces. My awning is 2.5 metre deep which is going to give me more than enough room. I just wonder if anyone has had difficulty with the fibreglass pole? I’ve heard they can be a nightmare.

Good Points: the overall look of the awning is really pleasing, spacious, well made and the reasons we decided to buy it. We felt it was at the top of our budget but when we saw it up we were very pleased with it.

General comments: We always go to the Peak District whenever we have the chance and have done so for the last 10 years, so the putting up and guying down etc was not an unpleasant shock. The Peaks were beautiful and the awning looked great. We went out for a meal, and went to bed around 11 pm. we awoke at 1am to hear a wind and rain. We were not bothered about it because our older awning often went through force 10 wind and rain and the awning has never ever shifted. Waking up in the morning we looked outside and our awning was spotless whilst 3 or 4 of the surrounding awnings were scattered across the park. We felt quite bad eating breakfast under our awning as other people were collecting theirs from the nearby hedges. The Isabella All in one is a robust awning which is incredibly weather proof, holding strong in all elements. From the pole connectors to the security buckles the awning is reassuringly well made. We’ve used it 3-4 times since then and each time it’s performed brilliantly
